Assalamalaikoum wa rahmatullahi wa baraktu & Ramadan Kareem! I find myself more than ever writing posts in my head that drift off into my dreams as I put the last of my children to bed or more likely they put me to bed as my husband likes to say! Today in celebration of Ramadan and because for the most part I feel human again after a nasty bought with morning sickness (one of the biggest lies told in history!) I thought it was about time to actually write in my greatly neglected blog.
Since 9/11 it is no secret that the media generally portrays and promotes many misconceptions about not only Muslims, but Arabs/IndoPak populations as well. Let me just point out that these are also diverse populations with many different creeds; a nuance that seems to be lost in translation. It’s gotten to the point where I have become desensitized to the word terrorist being a synonym for Muslim. However, I was shaken out of my apathetic stupor by Jeanine Pirro of Fox News whose solution for ISIS (a term I still don’t quite buy) was to bomb them repeatedly because they (although again, not all of Iraqis/Syrians are Muslims) are coming after “us”, the infidels.
This level of misinformation is unethical by any standard and irresponsible at the least. Ms. Pirro is worse than the Taliban leaders who call for the destruction of all Americans because her audience is a lot bigger and more able to exact violence. Let me point out the obvious to Ms. Pirro, these are human beings. Mothers, fathers and babies who have just as much right to walk on this earth and breath in fresh air as she does. By nonchalantly suggesting that the only way to civilly deal with Iraq and Syria is to eradicate them all suggests that human life of those deemed as the other is.somehow less valuable
